E. C. Goodwin Tech Parents:

The Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) met on September 9. New officers were chosen.. Brenda Rheaume will be serving as President, Denise Fucini will be serving as Vice President, Karen Forbes will be serving as Secretary and Wendy Robertson will be serving as Treasurer. No one on the newly elected PFO board has previously served on the E. C. Goodwin PFO board. We are asking for your assistance in reviving this organization to benefit all of the students at E. C. Goodwin. We need parents to help out in the areas listed below:

FUNDRAISERS:

Currently, the PFO finances have been strained due to a lack of fundraisers. Fundraisers have been this school year curtailed due to construction activities. If the PFO does not does run some successful fundraisers prior to the end of the school year fundamental programs for students such as annual scholarships and support of Skills USA will be in jeopardy. We need ideas for fundraisers from our members as well as parents to volunteer for planned fundraisers later this year. We also need parents to volunteer to help students in the school store immediately after school on weekdays. It is about a 1 hour commitment. The school store has been a primary fundraiser for the PFO in past years.

COMMUNICATIONS

We need parents who are bilingual (Spanish/English) that will be able to translate written PFO information, such as this letter, translate at PFO meetings or call Spanish speaking PFO members to notify them of upcoming events. We also need volunteers to contact English speaking PFO members who don’t have e-mail to notify them of upcoming events.

ACTIVITIES

A significant component of the high school experience is extracurricular and other activities that enhance or complement the students’ academic experience. We need parents to suggest activities they feel would be beneficial for students and assist in planning them. If you are aware of a program or activity that could benefit our students, such as a community group that would run a program at E. C. Goodwin or a business that might somehow assist the students or PFO, please let us know.

We understand that most parents work and have other commitments that make it difficult to visit the school on a regular basis or even attend a PFO meeting. However, we believe that all PFO parents are concerned about the quality of their children’s high school experience and will find some time in their schedule to help us out even if it’s only at one event. Someone from the PFO Board will be contacting you in the next two weeks to ask you to contribute some of your time to this organization. We sincerely hope that each parent who has joined the PFO will be able to contribute at least a few hours of their time before the end of this school year.
